1-R’s in Saint Olaf is where we’ll be spendin’ the money! A good tip to follow is to try to remember to do at least one thing you did when you first met your significant other…hold hands, use manners, kiss good-bye/good night…it will help remind you of where you were and where you want to be!

  2. Karla Duff says:

I would have a romantic evening at Schera’s in Elkader.
Great food, comfortable environment, and a table by the fireplace :)

  3. Barbara Kalkwarf says:

We’d be going to Old Man River in McGregor, however, the Spillway Supper Club in Harpers Ferry is a close second. After 40 years of celebrating Valentine’s Day with the same sweetheart, my tip is: Try to find something new, i.e. food, place, dress, activity, etc. Keep’em guessing!

  4. Jill says:

We’d go to O’Fennelly’s Irish Pub with Old Man River as a close second!
Tip: My husband and I don’t go a day without a good laugh together…it is a must!

  5. We would be going to the River View in Guttenberg. On Friday nights they have the best barbequed ribs around. We have been married for 38 years and cann’t wait to celebrate our 40th. I love my husbands sense of humor.

  6. Tammy says:

Luana Tap will be my choice. I want to try the Frog Legs that they are now serving on Friday and Saturday nights or their Chicken Philly sandwich . I also hear they are adding more types of wings on Wednesday Nights….trying all these would be easy if I wasn’t already addicted to their Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich ; )
Tip: Look for the small signs of affection …It might amaze you how good you really have it.

I have to make a choice? Possibly Fitzy’s in Edgewood, or Graffiti’s, or maybe at the Buttercup in Edgewood for flowers, then again, we always enjoy going to the Anchor Inn in Garber – but then again, there is Gunder’s, unless I’m in the mood for a tenderloin, then it would have to be St. Olaf – too many choices!

  8. Jody Kerns says:

Humm……where to spend the $….that’s a tough choice! If I’m not cooking I’m happy anywhere, and there are SO many awesome choices out there! (we are going to the Marquette/McGregor B&B progressive supper for Valentines…..it’s great, and I highly recommend it!) I think I’ll go with Fennely’s this time, we had their fried green bean appetizer on New Year’s Eve, and let’s just say, “out of this world!” Tip: Wine!!?? Wine is always good! :) according to my husband 2 glasses of red wine is perfect, go for 3 and you take the chance of falling asleep! HA

  9. Phil says:

My number one choice would be Old Man River in McGregor. Good food and a wide selection of home brew. Romantic tip: Keep things new and exciting. No one likes doing/going to the same things/places over and over. How about a walk through Pikes Peak State Park after your Valentines dinner to notice the simple things in live.

1R’s In St. Olaf is where I would go. We don’t go out much and this would be great to go in our own community. It will be nice to see the new remodeling that he is doing. GREAT food and a new look what could be better????

  12. BILL BURKE says:

MAGGIES DINER AT MCGREGOR.WE WOULD SET AT THE “HONEYMOON TABLE”AND CELERBRATE OUR 49TH ANNIV.

  13. Elaine says:

Here’s the best excuse to visit DnT all the time – great contests and super offers. I hope everyone has a great Valentine’s Day and appreciates all the wonderful things they have in their lives. As for me, I’ll be taking friends to either Schera’s or Fennely’s Irish Pub in Elkader….but have great chefs and super menu choices.

  14. Lydia Guyer says:

A night out? You have to be kidding! With work, college, 3 kids, and a husband of almost 18 years its unheard of:) I believe we would go to the Irish Shanti in Gunder.

  15. Julie says:

What a hard choice – more than likely we’d have to flip a coin between the Irish Shanti in Gunder and Fennellys’ in Elkader.

A sure way to keep the spark alive in a marriage is to compromise. No couple enjoys the exact same things as their partner so don’t be afraid to do your own thing once in a while.

  16. Judy Benson says:

we always kiss each other good-bye when we leave for work a good way to start the day. after 33 years of marrage it has worked to make happiness for 2 people who each other thinks they are so lucky to have the other person as a life partner.

Old Man River would be a big treat for us to spend our $25.

  17. Linda says:

What a great contest and what a group of great places to eat!! I think we would probably go to Brainard’s Country Change. We have been there already for a few Valentine’s Day evening’s out and the specials have been really good!! We would add the company of some good friends and it would be a lot of fun!!

  18. Deb Deitchler says:

Whenever we have a night out without the kids we always seem to go towards the Mississippi River and Old Man River would be our 1st choice! With a nice quiet table the world would stop spinning for just a little while and we could enjoy each others company!

  19. Denise says:

I soooooo appreciate all the little things my husband does, and am thankful for our complimenting attitudes. We keep each other in check!

I’d say Old Man River. And if we won, we’d gift it on to my ever-deserving, always-busy sister – who also happens to have a birthday on V-Day!

  20. Penni Leonard says:

We’d like to go the The Barn in Prairie for a romantic setting by their fireplace. Date nights are always fun. Being each others best friend and always having an open ear for each other tends to work great.

  21. Kristin says:

We would enjoy Old Man River – (the outside dining area is wonderful in the summer….maybe this time of year we would try the inside!)

Our tip- always be each other’s BEST friend!

  22. Shirley says:

I would choose Old Man River for our date night. I believe in looking at the big picture when there are bumps in the relationship road. If there are issues, I tell myself, if he weren’t here tomorrow would you still consider this a big deal? Love as though this is your last day on earth.

  23. Lynda Coon says:

I would enjoy all the great prize components and would have a hard time choosing a dining place. The Buckhorn Grill burgers are fantastic, but I would also love to go to Old Man River or The Barn. However, I haven’t been to Fennellys’ yet…so what to do??? Put me down for Fennellys’ in Elkader. Thanks, and Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!

  24. Kim says:

We would go to Old Man River in McGregor. They have great atmosphere and we always enjoy good food.

Valentine tip – keep a sense of humor and know when to walk away from a disagreement…

  25. Stacy says:

Well I think that I would spend the money by taking my husband out to a movie at Elkader Cinema. We hae been married 15 years this year and with 2 very active kids and our own very busy lives it would be great just to have a night to ourselves!

  26. Jody Meyer says:

I would pick Brainard’s Country Change because I’ve heard great things about it and haven’t had a chance to get there yet.

  27. Jake Meyer says:

I’d pick Jodi’s Americana Grill for sure. The grill chips are amazing! Nicest bartender in the area too.

  28. Julie Suhr says:

My sweetheart and I would spent our money at Old Man River in McGregor. They have great food and good beer. One tip I have for a great marriage is to always be willing to try new things we are going to a “Weekend to Remember” in March it is a marriage retreat and I think it will be good to be reminded of all the great things we love and share. Sometimes we get so busy with kids, work, and just life that we need to slow down and take time for one another.

  29. Dee Coan says:

We don’t normally celebrate Valentine’s day, so
if my wonderful husband could stay awake, we would go
to Old Man River in McGregor.

  30. Barb says:

We usually celebrate Valentine’s Day at my husband’s Knights of Columbus annual Valentine’s Party, which is mainly held on a Sunday evening. This is the first year in a very long time that this Sunday will actually fall on Valentine’s Day! Seeing as we are having it at “The Stadium” in Guttenberg, I would definitely spend the $25 dnt Valentine’s cash there. Rod has very good food and everything is homemade. My romantic tip is not so much intended for only Valentine’s Day, but for every day. Remember how much you love your spouse, and how they make your life so much more worth living. Remind them every day of how much they mean to you and that you value their friendship, love and concern for you.

  31. Paul says:

I have heard many good things about Old Man River. I would like to take my sweetheart there for a special evening out.

  32. Pat Peterson says:

We have been to old man river several times and love it there. The food is great and the atmosphere is so warm. The staff is great!! I would spend my money there. It would be a great evening out.Hope I win

  33. Trent says:

Though the choice is difficult, I would definitely spend my money at the Franklin Hotel with my sweetheart. Besides the great food and not-too-shabby prices (tip: which will save some money for something besides just dinner :) ), it has a rich history to it and a great romantic, old-timin’ feel to it.

A quick tip to the fellas for Valentine’s Day: Roses are always the key to a great Valentine’s gift. Thought and time are better appreciated some times. :) (sorry guys)
