Rehearsals underway for Opera House Players comedy/murder mystery “Death by Chocolate”.
If you have to go–what better way to go than with chocolate? I’m sure many chocoholics have thought the same thing. In fact, I’m wondering if that’s what author Paul Freed was thinking when he wrote Death By Chocolate.
Members of the newly renovated Meadowbrook Health Resort are dropping like flies! On the eve of the grand re-opening, on the eve of the grand re-opening when head cook Edith Chiles (Wendy Shea, Guttenberg) drops dead. This is not the best advertisement!
It’s up to John Stone, (Cary Kann, Prairie du Chien) the manager, to find the cause and the murderer. Delightfully sarcastic and cynical. Stone finds himself teaming up with Ed Parlor, (Jay Moser, Elkader) mystery writer and amateur sleuth, in a wacky race against time.
The clues point to a sinister box of chocolates, and the suspects include all the outlandish characters working for the resort. Could it be Lady Riverdale,(Donna Anderson, Elkader) owner of the resort, and a woman with dark secrets? Or Ralph Deadwood, (Dave Beck, Elkader) gym instructor and all around cad? Dick Simmering, (Jonathon Moser, McGregor) the aerobics instructor? Anne, (Kay Gardner, Elkader) the panic stricken nurse? Or could it be “Sweet Pea” Meadowbrook, (Michele Smith, Manchester) overweight and grieving daughter of the recently deceased founder of the resort?
Rounding out the cast of whacky characters are Lady Riverdale’s secretary, Dyslexia (Janet Ott, Elkader), Margaret Daniels (Natalie Moore, Elgin) a writer for Elite magazine and Alfred Mellox, (Clark Ott) trusted companion of the late Henry Meadowbrook.
