Delaware County Fair Show Ring

Delaware County Fair Society Breaks Ground on New Show Ring.

The Delaware County Fair is excited to announce they have officially broken ground on their new show ring facility. The footings and wall portions of the building were poured last week. Construction of the main building structure is set to get underway with the next break in the weather.

Manager Jeannie Domeyer said, “who would have thought we’d be waiting to see if we could build based on the snow forecast in May. We’re really excited to be making progress on this building and are so blessed to have a group of generous material suppliers and contractors who are donating portions to help make this project happen.”

Donations are still needed to reach the final goal of this project. If you are interested in making a tax deductible contribution to this project, please contact the fairground at 563.927-6449.

Sidewalk Prophets

The Delaware County Fair is excited to announce the entertainer for the Christian Concert held Wednesday, July 10th at the 2013 Delaware County Fair. Up and coming group, The Sidewalk Prophets will headline this year’s Christian entertainment.

Sidewalk Prophets toured with Jeremy Camp and Audio Adrenaline on the strength of independent albums, then rode the popularity of their first Word Records release, These Simple Truths, to a Dove Award for Best New Artist and a nomination for Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year. “The Words I Would Say” hit #3, “You Can Have Me” went Top 20, a Christmas single, “Hope Was Born This Night,” hit the Top 10, and “You Love Me Anyway” went all the way to #1 on the Billboard Christian Singles chart. The band has toured with the Rock and Worship Roadshow with MercyMe and Francesca Battistelli, among others, and landed another Dove nomination for Group of the Year in 2011.

The Delaware County Fair has a mission to have something for everyone at each Fair. According to Jeannie Domeyer, Manager of the Delaware County Fair, “The Christian concerts have helped fill part of that goal by bringing in entertainment for fair-goers that might have been underserved in the past. We aim to be diverse in our entertainment so that our whole county has something they can enjoy at each fair.”

Ms. Domeyer reports this year will include a canned food drive as part of the Christian show.
“We feel this is a great venue to spread the word about giving back. The fair would like to give back to the community by sponsoring this food drive. Please bring a food item with you to the concert. All donations will be given to the Delaware County Food Pantry.”

Tickets for this concert will be free with your price of admission to the Fair. Adult admission is $10 and children 11 and under are $3.

Taylor Colbert, 13, of Manchester has launched a fundraiser to help the Delaware County Fairgrounds complete their new show ring project.

Taylor Colbert, 13, of Manchester has launched a fundraiser to help the Delaware County Fairgrounds complete their new show ring project. Taylor is a member of the Greeley Go Getters 4H Club and has participated in the fair horse show for the last 4 years.  Her family was planning on donating $100.00 and challenged Taylor to increase their donation with a fundraising project. Taylor purchased stuffed horses to create incentive to donate. The fundraiser asks for community members to give at least $10.00 and in return they will receive a cute Delaware County blue ribbon enhanced stuffed horse. She has started this project to help her community and to contribute to the improvements of the fairgrounds. With this project, Taylor‘s new goal is to donate at least $500.00 to help pay for the bleachers for the new show ring. Through this process she will be learning about community service, organization, entrepreneurship and marketing. If you would like to donate to this project and receive a collectible Delaware County Fair stuffed horse, you can find Taylor at Theisen’s in Dyersville on April 6,  from 9:00 AM -12:00 PM. The first song he penned, “Small Town, USA” hit number 1 on the charts. His next release, “Backwoods”, hit number 5 on the charts. Named the 2009 Billboard Magazine Best Male Country Artist was just the beginning for this young man from small town Poyen, Arkansas.

Brandon Heath headlines tonight DCF Christian Concert

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

Christian Singer, Brandon Heath will perform tonight at the Delaware County Fair

The Delaware County Fair Board is pleased to announce Christian singer/songwriter Brandon Heath will headline tonight’s, Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at the Delaware County Fair in Manchester, Iowa! This will be a FREE concert with gate admission in the festival area of the fairgrounds.
Brandon Heath first hit popular notoriety with the release of his 2008 single “Give Me Your Eyes”. This song made Christian music fans sit up and take notice of not only the content of his writing but of the voice behind it. Heath’s efforts were rewarded in 2009 and 2010 as he was named Male Vocalist of the Year in both years by the Gospel Music Association.
Heath has now released a new album “Leaving Eden” featuring the song “Your Love.” The concept of “Leaving Eden” speaks to a new awareness in Heath’s life, as well as a continuation of his career-long focus on reconciliation. “Leaving Eden represents an important step forward for Heath as an artist, as a singer, as a chronicler of the world around him. Throught this remarkable collection of songs, he reminds us – moment by moment, decision by decision – of the hope given to us. Althought we often may feel the weight of the world pushing in, by looking back and leaning on the One who created us, we can truly experience that burden lifted.

Lindsay McCaul will open tonight's Brandon Heath Concert

Lindsay McCaul will open the Brandon Heath concert. McCaul’s talent was brought to the attention when
she released her label debut, If It Leads Me Back, Jan. 17, 2012. The up-and-comer has already received much national attention during her short time on the music scene, with TLC reality program “Say Yes To The Dress: Atlanta” inviting McCaul to perform “Take My Hand,” from her new release, on the program. Additionally, Mark Hall, frontman for platinum-selling band Casting Crowns, asked McCaul to open on the group’s “Come to the Well” tour last fall and this spring.

This free concert is the fifth in a series of annual Christian artists at the Delaware County Fair. For more information about this concert, and other events and attractions of the 2012 Delaware County Fair, contact Jeannine Domeyer at (563) 927-6449 or delcofair@iowatelecom.net.

Next Up: Delaware County Fair Food

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

Delaware County Fair, IowaWhen one thinks of fair the taste of biting into something sweet and deep-fried often comes to mind.  This year’s Delaware County Fair fair has all sorts of varieties of foods to tempt your taste buds. Funnel Cakes are a fair favorite and this year adding red velvet ones to the mix will be sure to excite the kid in everyone.  Deep fried food is always a hit and makes people think of all the odd combinations of fried food fairs offer including; deep fried PB &J, Twinkies and this year deep fried cookie dough!  Fair Manager Jeannie Domeyer tried these wonderful delights while attending the Florida State Fair and she commented,

“They are little bites of heaven.  The cookie dough in the center melts and it’s like eating warm cookie dough with the added bonus of fried sweet breading around.  They are a must try!”–Jeannie Domeyer, Delaware County Fair Manager.

Eating a meal at the fair is a good option as well. You can find anything from Italian sausages, to gyros to corn dogs. The Feast at First Lutheran Foodstand and 4-H Foodstand have a ton of options including tenderloins, ribeye steak sandwiches and a favorite of many, the taco salad. But no meal at the fair is complete without an ice-cold lemonade to wash it down.  Fresh squeezed lemonade is Delaware County’s favorite drink during the second week in July. Come see what other exciting and delightful food the Delaware County Fair has to offer this year.

This year’s edition of the Delaware County Fair will take place July 9th-15th.  Hope to see you there!
