Some new and exciting events are coming to the Clayton County Fair for the first time this year.
On Thursday, August 4 at 7 p.m., Motokazie Supercross will host an exciting motorsports show for bikes and ATV that will thrill both spectators and amateur riders.
On Saturday, August 6 at 1 p.m., watch some crazy crash-zone action at the demolition derby.
Finally, the first annual Clayton County Bull Bash promises to be an entertaining bull riding event on Saturday, August 6 at 7 p.m.

The Clayton County Fair starts next week! The annual event held in National, Iowa, promises some great entertainment, food, and exhibits.
This year’s music line-up includes Marty Stuart & his Fabulous Superlatives, a four-time Grammy winner who performs country, bluegrass, gospel, rockabilly and rock ‘n’ roll, who will play Friday, August 5 at 8 p.m.
LoCash Cowboys, a country duo known for their unique look and signature dance moves, will hit the stage Saturday, August 6 at 8 p.m.
Finally, country music fans can look forward to Terry Lee Goffee’s ultimate Johnny Cash tribute show, who will bring the signature look and sound of Cash to Clayton County fairgoers on Sunday, August 7, at 7 p.m.

Locally Easter weekend is traditionally a great weekend to have fun and enjoy an Easter Brunch. The Franklin Hotel in Strawberry Point finished up their annual Karaoke Championship, Saturday, March 19. Thirteen singers were featured who had won previous competitions throughout the year. This year only three men were chosen to compete amongst ten women. The event started off at 9 p.m. and your very own DishnTunes.com writer, Shannon Durbin, drew lucky number one. I sang “Leaving on a Jet Plane” in the style of Peter, Paul, and Mary. A variety of themes followed from Country to Jazz to Rock n’ Roll.
Highlights included Derek Miller singing “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus, while sporting a mullet wig. His antics brought him the People’s Choice Award at the end of the night. Winners of the year included Becky Willie, taking home third place. She did a cut-throat rendition of ”Heartbreaker” by Pat Benatar. Second went to Brad Gilson, a regular in the Franklin Karaoke scene whose soul searching voice sank deep into the lyrics of slow Country favorites. The first place winner, and winner of the $500 grand prize, was Miranda Beyer, who sang a perfectly pitched version of ”Torn” by Natalie Imbruglia.
A panel of three judges selected the winners. They included the Starmont High School Choir director, a former Franklin Karaoke winner, and a music lover from town.
The crowd was wall-to-wall and full of energy for the event. As an added treat it was revealed that there was a mother and daughter competing against one another in the contest. Shelby Swanson was not only the daughter of Connie South (both performers) but she was also the aunt of contestant Derek Miller making the whole event a family affair.

Heritage Days began in 1975 as a way to bring life back to the tiny community of Osborne, Iowa. Tucked in among the rolling wooded hills between Elkader and Strawberry Point, the once thriving town has lost most of its inhabitants to other areas since its heyday in the 1930’s. Heritage Days was planned to take visitors back in time to this community, and all other Iowa towns of the pioneer era, through living history demonstrations, contests and other activities.
From its modest beginnings, with only a handful of demonstrations, Heritage Days has grown to become one of Northeast Iowa’s most popular fall festivals. Held on the second weekend of October each year, Heritage Days usually falls during the peak of the fall leaf season. Thousands of visitors to the area stop at Osborne to take a brief journey back in time.
Demonstrations include: basketry, candle making, quilting, spinning, story telling and flint napping.
Contests include: buffalo chip throwing, chili cooking, and pumpkin decorating

The Comedy film “16 to Life”"16 to Life” has a LABOR DAY weekend showing in the the two cities closest to McGregor Iowa where the film was shot! Sept. 3 opening at The Elkader Cinema, Elkader,Iowa and a Sept. 3 opening at Star Theater in Prairie du Chien, WI.

New York, New York – August 12, 2010 – When Los Angeles based writer-director Becky Smith chose to return to her home state of Iowa to shoot her first feature film, 16 to Life, she had no idea the film would receive international acclaim. To date, the romantic comedy has earned six “Best Feature” awards, including honors from Landlocked Film Fest and the Iowa Motion Picture Association.
This September, Iowa residents will have the opportunity to view this award-winning film during limited engagements in six Iowa theaters. Waterdog Films announced today that the following theaters will showcase 16 to Life with special appearances by the film’s cast and writer-director: Elkader Cinema, Elkader (September 3); Bijou Theater, Iowa City (September 8); Collins Road, Cedar Rapids (September 9); Rave Theater, Davenport Quad Cities (September 10); Fleur Cinema, Des Moines (September 11).
