FYI Dining Out Crowd, The Barn in Prairie Du Chien, WI is temporarily closed… That is the bad news. The good news is….
The Barn’s management crew, led by Trudy Dilger is opening the former Cedar Lodge Steakhouse in Manchester. The new restaurant will be open soon and is called Fireside Pub & Steakhouse and is located behind Wal-Mart. The Dilgers also own the well known Kolby’s Restaurant in New Hampton, IA.

We have good news for brat and beer lovers.
Andrea McElwaine says her McGregor Beer and Brat Garden should be open for business by Memorial Day weekend. A few weeks ago the Mississippi River inundated the riverfront business at the McGregor boat landing. Andrea and crew hustled to empty the building before the mighty rising river could take over the restaurant.The crew removed the entire building’s contents, they even removed the exterior windows. The river actually rose up to the railroad tracks but did not overtake the sandbag wall just beyond the tracks.
While the crew is not happy about pushing back their traditional late April opening they are glad to have survived the 2010 flood with an intact building.

4/24/2011 The Mississippi River is in retreat at the McGregor Beer in Brat Garden
The river is retreating to within its banks and a major portion of the Beer and Brat Garden’s parking lot is now uncovered. Andrea is hoping to be present at the May10th, A Taste of DishnTunes.com even if it is just to report on their flood recovery progress.

Fennellys” Irish Pub, Elkader, IA – I was lucky enough to dine out for lunch today in Elkader. My husband and I agreed we would try Fennellys’ new Prime Rib Wrap. While supplies last, Prime Rib Wraps are the current featured lunch item at Fennellys’. Let me just say, “excellent.” This was a very well prepared, easy to eat luncheon delight. The wrap was served on a spinach and herb wrap, with flavorful prime rib chunks, crisp leaf lettuce, diced red onion and sauteed button mushrooms. Tasty Tasty!! I recommend lunch a Fennellys’ tomorrow.

Thursday, June 10th, 2010I just came from a visit to the Anchor Inn. Boone is rushing around getting ready for her monthly Oriental Buffet Night. She showed me what she has ready and even gave me two homemade egg rolls to go. They were fantastic! So well prepared and light not heavy and greasy the way some can be. Boone and crew have Sweet and Sour Beef, a delicious chicken pasta, egg rolls, Crab Meat Rangoon and so much more ready to go for tonight, June 10th. The buffet begins at 5pm at the Anchor Inn in Garber. Don’t miss this treat!
